Area Rug Layout

Here at Home Accents II we not only help you select your furniture, we help you design your space.  With living spaces becoming more open, it is important to define your areas.  Using an area rug is a great way to do that.

In the living room, using a larger rug will help make a room look larger.  Measure your room and just make sure you leave at least 18 inches of bare floor exposed around the edges.  Generally, you will use an 8 x 11 or 9 x 12 rug in your main living space.

When planning your rug for your dining room, be sure to consider that your rug needs to extend so that your chairs remain on the rug when pushed back.  This typically would have your rug extending between 24 inches and 36 inches just beyond the table edge.

For your bedroom, the most common layout would have your area rug frame your bed, but not quite extend to your nightstands.  You want to be sure not to have your area rug extend into a high traffic area in your bedroom.  It should just frame your bed.  Typically it would be an 8’ x 10’ area rug for a queen size bed and a 9’ x 12’ for a king size bed.

We carry a huge selection of area rugs.  We have area rugs of multiple sizes in stock and ready for delivery.  If you need a different size or style, we can order them and have them delivered within a few weeks.
